You will need to pour small quantity of white vinegar into the tank of humidifier. A little just at the bottom of the tank. Let it for approximately an hour, periodically shaking the device in order the vinegar to be spread over the whole surface.

Then you need to add some chlorine bleach into the water, one teaspoon for every water gallon. This solution should be let for one more hour. These actions will provide a full disinfection of the machine.

After it pour out the chlorine and add some water. Let it in the tank for an hour. Within an hour pour out the water and wash the device carefully with distilled water. Before drying the machine see if there are no residues left there. If there's still an odor of bleach let the water soak some more time.
